فیلم در سال 1969 به کارگردانی “جرج روی هیل” ساخته شد. گرچه به صورت نیم‌بند برپایه‌ی وقایع تاریخی بود، اما بیشتر خط روایت داستان، ساختگی بودند. “بوچ کسیدی” (با بازی “پل نیومن”) که یک سارق بانک است، به همراه همکارش “ساندنس کید” (با بازی “رابرت ردفورد” جوان) سردسته‌های گروه “Hole in the Wall” هستند که سعی دارند نقشه‌ی سرقت بانک دیگری را عملی کنند. همکاری ردفورد و نیومن پس از این فیلم در فیلم دیگر “جرج روی هیل” با نام “نیش” (The Sting) محصول 1973 نیز ادامه پیدا کرد. “Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid” در مراسم اسکار 1970 نامزد 7 اسکار بود که 4 اسکار را (اسکارهای موسیقی و فیلم‌برداری و فیلم‌نامه‌ی اقتباسی) از آن خود کرد.
